Where to go after primary school?

Even though integrated secondary schools/community schools and grammar schools differ in some of the courses they offer, they all have in common that all school-leaving qualifications can be obtained at all three types of school.

In a personal consultation, teachers from primary and comprehensive schools will provide you with information about your child’s transition. This is based on their grades in individual subjects and their performance and skills development. In all cases, the support prognosis of the primary school must be taken into account.

The brochure informs you about the application procedure, the different types of schools, all-day programs, foreign languages or special school profiles. So you can find the right school and language offer for your child.

The registration period for transition to Year 7 at an integrated secondary school, comprehensive school or grammar school is from 5 to 12 March 2026. On 30 January 2026, your child will receive a registration form for secondary school and a support prognosis for the transition to Year 7 for the 2026/2027 school year along with their half-yearly report card. If the total marks for German, mathematics and the first foreign language from the half-yearly reports for years 5.2 and 6.1 are above 14, suitability for attending grammar school must be demonstrated by participating in a trial lesson. In this case, your child will also receive a registration form with their report card, which you can use to register your child for trial lessons on 9 or 10 February 2026. The trial lessons will take place on 20 February 2026. The registration period for transition to Year 5 at a secondary school is in February 2026 (exact dates to follow) (first choice).
