If you would like your child to transfer to a secondary school after Year 4, please inform their class teacher in good time. The teachers will provide information about your child’s transition during a personal consultation. Grades in individual subjects as well as performance and competence development will be taken into account.
Once you have informed your child’s class teacher of your wish for an early transfer, you will receive the registration form with hologram and the support prognosis in duplicate (one for your records) with the half-yearly report card.
This allows you to register your child at up to three schools of your choice. Please note that you must register your child at each preferred school yourself. The registration form does not apply to private schools.
Registration procedure at the preferred schools
-
First choice
During the registration period, first register your child at your first choice school. The district school authority will send you a notification either confirming your desired school place or informing you that your first choice school has been rejected.
-
Second choice
If your child does not get a place at their first choice school, you can take part in the second choice procedure. To do this, you will receive information about all schools with places available along with the rejection letter from your first choice school and a copy of the original registration form and the support prognosis. This also applies to the third choice procedure.
If admission to a school requires a test, your child must take it in any case. The district education authority will send you a notification either confirming your desired school place or informing you that your second choice school has been rejected.
-
Third choice
If you were not successful in obtaining your preferred school place in the second round of applications, you can now apply to schools that still have places available. The district education authority will send you a notification either confirming your preferred school place or informing you that your third choice school has been rejected.
If your child does not receive a place at any grammar school, they will continue their schooling at their primary school.
