Stolpersteine

Thank you very much for sending the aktuell magazine and the beautiful calendar, which gives me untold pleasure.

In May I came to Berlin for the laying of Stolpersteine for my parents, Erna and Wilhelm Flanter, who were deported to Minsk, on the fifth transport in November 1941, where they were murdered. Herr Helmut Lölhöffel arranged for the Stolpersteine to be laid outside my parents´ home and business in Suarezstraße. A lot of people who live in the flats came to take part in the ceremony, as well as people from neigh bouring houses. One lady even took her eight-year-old son out of school to witness the proceedings! I was accompanied by my daughter, sonin- law and grandson. We found the whole experience very moving and it is good to know that there is at least some memorial for my parents.

I left Berlin on the Kindertransport, in January 1939, and to this day can‘t understand what it must have cost my parents to send their only child away. I think that is real love and courage.
