A joint event organised by the Beirat für Partizipation und Integration Treptow-Köpenick and the Büro für Partizipation und Integration, Bezirksamt Treptow-Köpenick von Berlin.
The International Summer Festival took place for the first time on 15 September 2023 at Baergarten in Schöneweide. We were co-organisers and had been preparing intensively for the festival for months and weeks beforehand. The planning was a great adventure. We feverishly collected ideas and thought about how we could make the festival as enjoyable as possible for our guests. We also visited the venue in person to get an idea of the possibilities.
The centrepiece of the festival was the varied stage programme. Music bands and artists from different countries created a great atmosphere. Numerous exhibitors from our district – including associations and organisations – took the opportunity to make their work and offers better known through hands-on activities.
For younger visitors in particular, there were numerous activities such as face painting, handicrafts and fairy tale readings. The children were able to give free rein to their creativity and clearly enjoyed the activities on offer.
The weather was perfect on this day and the Baergarten filled with life from 3 pm. There was an exuberant and cheerful atmosphere and happy faces could be seen everywhere.
Our district mayor, Mr Oliver Igel, was also a guest and came to see the festival. For us as co-organisers, it was a great honour to be part of the action on this day and to make contact with the residents of our district. On this occasion, we were also able to present the “Welcome to Treptow-Köpenick” guide to the public, which provides important information and contact points for people in our district.
It was an enriching experience for us to take part in this festival for the first time. We are already looking forward to taking part again next year and contributing the experience we have gained.
To summarise, the late summer festival was a complete success. It spread joy and enthusiasm and was a successful experience for all visitors. Looking to the future, we already have many ideas for the festival.
We are confident that the International Late Summer Festival will remain a highlight in our district in the years to come. We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition!
