Memorial: “Wiedervereinigung,” Hildegard Leest

The memorial “Wiedervereinigung” (Reunification) is located in the small park on the corner of Liesenstrasse and Chausseestrasse. Made of roughly hewn shell limestone, the memorial was designed by the artist Hildegard Leest and put up in 1962. Concrete personal experience governs the language of its form and conveys to today’s viewers how the political situation was perceived in the first few years after the West Berlin border had been sealed off.
