German courses for refugees

These courses aim at

  • refugees
  • asylum seekers
  • persons with a residence permit for humanitarian reasons who do not have access to integration courses or other German courses and are not subject to compulsory education
  • What levels are there?

    We offer courses that range from literacy training to B1.2.

  • How long do the courses last and what do they cost?

    A course lasts about 3 months, includes 100 lessons and is free of charge. A total of 1000 lessons can be taken.

  • When and where do the courses take place?

    The German courses for refugees

    • take place three times a week, in the mornings or afternoons, with 4 lessons per session.
    • The courses take place during the school year, there are no lessons during the school holidays.The courses start three times a year and
    • take place at various learning locations in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district.

    Information on dates and places of learning can be obtained from the counselling service.

  • What is special?

    In December and during the summer holidays, we offer courses with a special focus, e.g. exam preparation, deepening and broadening knowledge and skills, literature courses, language training/conversation.

  • Is there an exam and do I have to pay for the course material?
    • There is the possibility to take the exams Deutsch A1 and A2, as well as the German test for immigrants (Deutschtest für Zuwanderer (DTZ). Participation in these exams is free of charge for course participants.
    • The course material is also free of charge for participants.
  • How can I register?

    Most courses require prior counselling and, if necessary, a placement test.

  • Why is counselling important?

    During a counselling interview with a placement test, we will find the right course for you together. Because it is important for your learning success that you learn in a course that is right for you.

    Please bring the following with you to the counselling session:

    • your valid identity card or passport with residence permit
    • Certificate of residence in Berlin
    • Language certificates, if you have any.
