Target group / Purpose of funding

The work grants are intended for the artistic development of professional comic artists. Grants are provided for work processes of a limited duration, for the continuation or completion of specific work. The criteria for awarding a grant are primarily artistic and content-related quality as well as innovative aspects.

Eligibility and conditions

  • Applicants must have publications or samples of their work that show artistic ability.
  • Comic artists applying to this programme must live and work in Berlin (primary residence).
  • Artists who are enrolled in an artistic training programme at a higher education institution are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants who hold a professorship at the time of application and / or during the grant are not eligible to apply.
  • The online application must be completed and submitted in German.

Funding volume

The duration of the work grant depends on the scope of the work project. Work grants can be awarded for 4 and 8 months – subject to the availability of funds. The grants are expected to be paid out in monthly installments of 2.000 €.

Call for applications

A call for applications to the work grant programme is usually issued in August of each year for the following year.

Allocation of funding

An independent expert jury decides on the applications. The jury members for the grants 2026 will be announced in due course.

All applicants are expected to be informed of the results of the jury meeting by e-mail. The names of the funded artists will be announced to the public.
