Target group / objectives of the funding
For all applications that do not provide for co-financing with the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the Kulturstiftung des Bundes and the EU, an ongoing application is possible. The planned application must then be submitted to the other funding institution at least 4 weeks before the submission date there.
Please refer to the current version of the program flyer (in German) for detailed information on submitting an application.
The funding programme is aimed at professional Berlin-based artists and independent Berlin-based groups. Institutions that work specifically for and with Berlin’s independent scene are also eligible to apply. The projects should be developed for Berlin and presented in Berlin.
The programme enables applications to be submitted to funding institutions (in particular the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the Performing Arts Fund, Creative Europe) that require a secured co-financing share at the time of application. Applications are not eligible if the co-financing share can only be provided after the main application has been approved. Co-funding is available for projects in all artistic disciplines. In addition to projects, applications for research processes or similar are also eligible.
Requirements
- Applicants must submit their application to the co-funding fund in good time before the deadline for submission to the main funding body (see document Main funding body).
- Applicants must prove that the main funding body requires secured third-party funding at the time of application. In addition, it is possible to apply for co-funding under Creative Europe.
- Grants can only be applied for projects that do not include or are not planned to include funding from the State of Berlin, the Capital Cultural Fund or the German Class Lottery Foundation Berlin (see information sheet for a complete list of excluded programmes).
- The project must not have already begun.
- Artists or the majority of the members of a group must live and work in Berlin.
- Artists must not be enrolled at a university.
- The project must take place in Berlin (among other places).
- Investment measures are not supported.
There is no entitlement to funding.
Scope of funding
The maximum amount of funding recommended by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion is based on the amount of funds required for the application to the main sponsor (= largest third-party funding provider).
Project applications with a volume of more than €100,000 for the year 2027 are not eligible. Applications for funding in 2027 in the amount of €100,000 or less are still possible. This rule does not apply to the 2026 funding year. For the year 2026, applications with a volume of more than €100,000 are still permitted. Priority will be given to funding for artistic production resources.
