Target group / Purpose of funding
The work stipends are intended for the artistic development of professional authors, who write in a language other than German. Stipends are provided for work processes of a limited duration, for the continuation or completion of specific work. Stipends are awarded on the basis of the quality of work, potential for development and continuity.
The purpose of the scholarship is also to enrich Berlin’s literary scene by promoting and supporting innovative texts and their authors.
Eligibility and conditions
- Applicants to this programme must have previously published work or be able to provide samples documenting their literary talent.
- Authors applying to this programme must live and work in Berlin (primary residence).
- The online application must be completed and submitted in German. The exposé can be submitted in German or in English. The other attachments can be submitted in a non-German language.
Funding volume
The stipends are each endowed with a lump sum of €24,000 for a period of 12 months, €16,000 for a period of 8 months and €8,000 for a period of 4 months.
A public presentation is planned with the stipend holders in September 2024.
Call for applications
The application period is expected to begin in mid-April 2023 and ends on 30 May 2023, 6 p.m.
Information and FAQ sessions
In cooperation with the Senate, schreiben & leben invites you to an info session about these stipends. Representatives of the funding programme give an overview of the most important information for the application process. A few weeks after that, an additional FAQ sessions will take place, in which all open questions can be clarified in direct conversation with the representatives of the programme.
