Arbeitsstipendien für nicht-deutschsprachige Literatur
Target group / Purpose of funding
The work stipends are intended for the artistic development of professional authors who do not write in German. Stipends are provided for work processes of a limited duration, for the continuation or completion of specific work. Stipends are awarded on the basis of the quality of work, potential for development and continuity.
Eligibility and conditions
- Only one application per applicant is possible.
- Applicants to this programme live and work in Berlin.
- Applicants must have previously published work or be able to provide samples documenting their literary talent.
- Applicants must not be enrolled in a college or university at the time of application or during the funding period.
- The work stipend for literature in non-German language cannot be combined with a grant from the German Literature Fund (Deutscher Literaturfonds) within the same funding period.
Funding volume
The stipends are each endowed with a lump sum of €24,000 for a period of 12 months, €16,000 for a period of 8 months and €8,000 for a period of 4 months.
A public presentation is planned with the stipend holders in the summer of the funding year.
Allocation of funding
An independent jury decides on the applications. The names of the jury members will be announced at a later date. Please refrain from contacting the jury members personally iin the run-up to the procedure.
All applicants will be informed of the results by email. The names of the stipend holders will be announced to the public in a press release.

An FAQ session will take place as part of the Literature Industry Meetup on May 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Refugio (Lenaustrasse 3-4, 12047 Berlin-Neukölln) (with simultaneous interpretation).
