Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family

Senatorin Günther Wünsch und Staatssekretäre

As part of the Berlin state government, the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family Affairs shapes important areas of social coexistence. One focus is education policy with early childhood education in daycare centres, school education and adult education. The two task areas of youth and family are dedicated to the provision and organisation of assistance, advice, care, support and recreational services for young people and families.

Together with teachers, socio-educational and other specialised staff as well as parents and guardians, more than 2,000 employees are constantly working to create optimal conditions for good education, upbringing and support for all children and young people in Berlin. This includes the expansion of daycare centres, schools and language support services, the implementation of the inclusion and digitalisation strategy and securing a skilled workforce.

Katharina Günther-Wünsch, Senator for Education, Youth and Family, heads the largest of the ten specialised administrations in the state of Berlin. She is supported by Christina Henke, Secretary of State for Education, Dr. Torsten Kühne, Secretary of State for School Construction and School Digitisation, and Falko Liecke, Secretary of State for Youth and Family

The Senate Administration also includes the school inspectorates in the twelve districts as well as the vocational and centrally administered schools, the Berlin-Brandenburg Social Pedagogical Training Institute, the Berlin State Centre for Political Education and the joint Berlin-Brandenburg State Institute for Schools and Media.
