Berlin is a modern industrial location and offers attractive conditions for companies looking to set up production here with its good mix of future technologies and traditional industries.

In 2020, approx. 110,000 people were employed* in more than 800 industrial companies (with 20+ employees) in the capital. (* Counts only those earning enough to make social insurance contributions.) The companies generated over €27 billion in revenue.

The most important industries in Berlin include:

  • chemical and pharmaceutical industries
  • food industry and tobacco processing
  • metalworking
  • electrical engineering and technology industries
  • mechanical engineering
  • traffic engineering

Berlin industry is characterised by a number of large companies, but above all by a numerous small and medium-sized enterprises. The positive growth of Berlin’s industry has gained further momentum in recent years, not least because of its excellent scientific infrastructure.
