Berlin is one of the leading locations for IT and communications technology in Germany.

In addition, the capital is unique in Germany for its culture industry and concentration of creative potential that attracts interest far beyond Germany’s borders. The IT, media and creative industries are among Berlin’s largest economic sectors and are characterized by many highly specialized medium-sized companies and a lively start-up scene. Over 38,000 companies with around 252,000 employees generate sales of 40.6 billion Euro (figures for 2020).

Numerous large e-business companies have their headquarters or a branch in the capital region. The close networking with the media and creative industries is characteristic.

The mixture of creative companies, technological expertise and an efficient university and research landscape has made Berlin the German center of the Internet industry. Start-ups and growth in the industry are supported in many ways. The capital is technology-friendly and policymakers in the city are open to innovative projects. The State initiative Project Zukunft coordinates the strategy for the Cluster.
