With approx. 330 medical technology and 255 biotech companies, 34 pharmaceuticals companies, and more than 145 hospitals and clinics, Berlin is one of the most important life science locations in Germany.

About 400,000 people work in the capital region’s healthcare industry – One in eight Berliners work in this sector. The industry generates about €32 billion in revenue each year.

Unique in Europe is the concentration of numerous large research institutions and universities focusing on the life sciences. These include internationally renowned institutions such as the Charité, Europe’s largest university hospital, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, the Institute for Micro and Medical Technology at TU Berlin, the German Rheumatism Research Centre, and the German Heart Centre Berlin.
