Berlin has been enjoying rapid economic growth for several years. Both the increase in GDP and the number of persons in employment are above the national average. Particularly gratifying is the positive growth in better-paying jobs.

In 2018, the city's economy grew by 3.1% and the number of people employed increased by 2.4% to more than 2 million.
