Unemployment rate in Berlin decreases

The unemployment rate in Berlin continues to fall. In May, around 173,000 women and men were registered as unemployed, about 3,600 fewer than in the previous month, as the Federal Employment Agency announced on Tuesday.

The unemployment rate fell by 0.2 points to 8.5 per cent. "The labour market in the region is proving robust despite the economic and political tensions resulting from the war against Ukraine," said Berlin-Brandenburg agency head Ramona Schröder.

"The trend in the employment situation continues to be positive"

The spring revival plays a role in this: many outdoor jobs are more feasible again and companies are hiring. Unemployment is also significantly lower than in May 2021, when the rate was still 10.1 per cent. Many new jobs have been created in Berlin. In March, the agency counted just under 1.64 million employees subject to social security contributions, a good 70,000 more than a year earlier. The trend in the employment situation continues to be positive," Schröder said.
