From Friday, drivers in Berlin will have to be prepared for some restrictions.
According to the traffic information centre (VIZ), the first closures in Tiergarten will be put in place on Friday for the half marathon on Sunday.
From 6 a.m., Straße des 17. Juni will be closed in both directions between Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße and Behrenstraße. From around 6 p.m., Straße des 17. Juni will then be closed in both directions from Großer Stern. There will also be closures for the half marathon on Ebertstraße, John-Foster-Dulles-Allee, Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße, Scheidemannstraße at the corner of Dorotheenstraße, Heinrich-von-Gagern-Straße, Annemarie-Renger-Straße and Paul-Löbe-Allee. They are all expected to be dismantled by early Monday morning.
On Sunday, Unter den Linden will be completely closed between Brandenburg Gate and Friedrichstraße from 7 a.m. The closure of the entire route will begin at 8 a.m., 75 minutes before the first start. The road sections will be gradually reopened after the last runners and after the course has been cleaned.
The VIZ recommends using public transport during the half marathon wherever possible. Drivers should use the A100 city motorway as an alternative. The running route can be crossed via the Tiergarten tunnel and the tunnel at Adenauerplatz. Road users must be prepared for longer journey times on the A100 motorway.
