Community gardens in Berlin

Many Berliners use community gardens to grow delicious vegetables, vitamin-rich fruit, aromatic herbs and fragrant flowers on their doorstep. Thanks to their commitment, wastelands and squares between urban canyons are transformed into green oases and blooming paradises in the middle of the city. The community gardens reward the urban gardeners with more than just fresh, locally produced food.

The collectively maintained gardens make the city greener, more beautiful and more liveable. They also make an important contribution to climate protection - and to fostering community. This is because people who often live next to each other anonymously for a long time get to know each other in the gardens. The hobby gardeners share their time and knowledge about seeds, planting times and proper care. They help each other out when the plants need watering or the weeds are getting out of hand.
