The Helle Oase community garden is a multi-award-winning neighborhood project that is open to everyone. It is run on a voluntary basis.
The Bürgergarten Helle Oase is a citizens' garden designed according to permaculture principles. It was created in 2012 on a once overgrown urban wasteland in the large Hellersdorf housing estate. In addition to colorful communal beds, barrier-free table beds, orchards and wildflower meadows, the project offers a children's playground as well as various exercise and sports facilities.
In the community garden's workshop, people make and build things. It gets cozy when family and friends get together around the fire pit and barbecue area. Anyone interested in gardening and repairing is very welcome here. The regular workshops, most of which are free of charge, are also open to everyone. The garden also offers daycare centers, schools and other groups opportunities for environmental education and experiencing nature.
