The idea to create the Wuhlegarten was born in 2002 as part of Treptow-Köpenick's Local Agenda 21.
When the district office made an area of 5,000 square meters available for the garden, the Wuhlegarten became Berlin's first intercultural garden in the summer of 2003.
Every day, people from different cultural backgrounds come together on the plot and create their get-together. Each member can cultivate a small piece of land. The focus is on growing fruit and vegetables. The different cultural backgrounds usually shape the heterogeneous appearance of the garden. Ecologically conscious gardening and the struggle for the habitat of very different animal species is always an essential part of the association's work and objectives.
