The traffic circle Großer Stern in Tiergarten is getting more modern traffic lights and will therefore be largely closed for four days.
From April 2 from 6 a.m. to April 5 at 8 p.m., the central traffic circle will be closed to cars, as announced by the Senate Department for Transport on Tuesday. Exceptions will be made for buses operated by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), cyclists and pedestrians.
The modernization of the traffic lights falls during the Easter holidays, when the Senate Department for Urban Mobility expects less traffic. According to the Senate Department, the work affects the traffic lights on all five feeder roads, which can no longer be passed from the adjacent junctions during this period. According to the Senate, the traffic lights currently installed there have been there for more than 25 years. They are now to be fitted with LED lights, among other things. In addition, new sensors are to detect bicycle traffic in order to enable longer green phases if necessary.
