Warning strike by aviation security staff at BER on Thursday

Streik am BER

The trade union Verdi is once again calling on aviation security staff at several German airports to go on warning strike.

In addition to BER Airport, the all-day strike on Thursday will also affect Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden Baden airports, as Verdi announced in Berlin on Tuesday. The union called on employees in passenger control, passenger and goods control, cargo control and service areas to strike. If the security checks at BER go on strike, flight departures are expected to be canceled. During a previous warning strike by security staff at the beginning of February, all departures and numerous landings were canceled.

Several wage disputes in air transport

The collective bargaining in aviation security concerns the working conditions of around 25,000 employees of private security service providers. They check passengers, staff and baggage at the entrances to the security area on behalf of the Federal Police. In air traffic in Germany, this is just one of several wage disputes at present. Most of them concern Lufthansa and its passengers. Among other things, the conflict with Verdi for Lufthansa ground staff and with the flight attendants' union Ufo for cabin crew remains unresolved.
