1. What is important to you in submissions for the Deep Tech Award?

Jury Dr. Christoph Haupenthal Web 3

“I consider three things important for a submission to the Deep Tech Award: (1) It should be a good idea with technical finesse, (2) the submission should be of high quality, meaning not just hastily put together, but well thought out and considering all important elements, and (3) it should not only showcase a use case but also present an idea for a real business case.”

- Dr. Christoph Haupenthal, Institute for Applied Blockchain

2. What constitutes a Deep Tech innovation for you?

Jury Katharina Adam Web 3

“The use of cutting-edge technology to create real added value – meaning, it should address and solve an actual problem. This includes considering incremental improvements achieved through innovative technology to, for example, increase efficiency, enable greater participation, etc.”

- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katarina Adam, HTW Berlin

3. Why is Berlin the right place to develop Deep Tech?

Jury Regine Haschka Helmer Web 3

“Berlin has increasingly become a significant hub for the development of Deep Tech innovations in recent years. A key factor in this is the city’s strong research landscape, shaped by various universities and innovation centers. This facilitates and promotes the research and development of Deep Tech. In Berlin, startups, investors, and companies come together, creating a dynamic environment for the exchange of ideas and resources. This diversity supports the development and scaling of Deep Tech startups by facilitating access to talent, financing, and partnerships.

Additionally, the venture capital scene is growing, with investors increasingly willing to invest in Deep Tech startups. This access to capital makes it easier for companies to obtain the financing necessary for the development and scaling of their innovations.”

- Regine Haschka-Helmer, Seedlabs
