Since 2015, the Deep Tech Award has been recognising innovative companies and projects that are shaping the future with their technologies. On this page, you will find the award-winning innovators who are setting new standards in areas such as AI, robotics, photonics & quantum technologies, and Web3 & blockchain. Their projects show how visionary ideas can be turned into marketable solutions – and how Berlin continues to grow as a location for deep tech innovation.

Noah Labs

Noah Labs GmbH uses artificial intelligence to detect chronic heart disease at an early stage via voice changes – using a smartphone. The solution offers non-invasive, cost-effective diagnostics with the potential to significantly reduce hospital admissions. The company benefits from its proximity to medical partners such as Charité and Berlin’s broad AI ecosystem.

Kipu Quantum

Kipu Quantum develops ultra-compact quantum algorithms that run on today’s hardware – a milestone for industries such as logistics, materials research, and finance. The goal: to make quantum advantages available not in the distant future, but right here and now.

DiAvEn (Labfly)

The Berlin-based start-up DiAvEn is revolutionizing the transport of biological samples in urban laboratory networks with its Labfly solution. Autonomous drone fleets enable faster, safer, and more energy-efficient routes between medical facilities – directly from Berlin.

PRAMOMOLECULAR GmbH

The biotech company PRAMOMOLECULAR GmbH focuses on innovative siRNA therapies for the targeted treatment of difficult-to-treat diseases such as pancreatic cancer. Patented transport molecules enable the effect to be delivered with pinpoint accuracy – without conventional packaging mechanisms and with high efficiency.

AFTS GmbH

AFTS GmbH uses Web3 technologies to digitize military supply chains within NATO. Its system replaces paper-based processes with encrypted real-time transactions, thereby strengthening the resilience of democratic infrastructures. Berlin offers the ideal environment for combining defense technology and blockchain excellence.

Winners 2024

Staex GmbH

Staex offers a service package for IoT devices that cannot use a VPN, such as smart meters, IP cameras or chargers for electric vehicles. These devices often face the challenge of being able to connect to the internet securely. A central component of their solution is the encryption of outdated communication protocols (e.g. http) so that communication between the devices or to external endpoints cannot be attacked by hackers

SAFIA Technologies GmbH

SAFIA Technologies GmbH specializes in particle-based rapid test methods for the detection of contaminants in food, with a focus on mycotoxins. Their tests enable the simultaneous detection of several toxins and thus represent a faster, more cost-effective and user-friendly alternative to conventional methods.

EvoLogics GmbH

EvoLogics GmbH develops and produces wireless underwater communication systems based on bionic concepts, combining advanced technology with knowledge from nature. The Quadroin, an autonomous underwater vehicle with a streamlined, penguin-like design and camera and sensor systems, enables a variety of underwater application scenarios: The detection of crashed airplane wrecks, the search for missing persons, detection of aerial bombs or seabed surveying.

Cambrium GmbH

Cambrium is a pioneer in the development of sustainable material building blocks through its AI-powered protein design technology. Their innovative materials such as NovaColl™, a vegan, skin-identical micromolecular collagen, aim to replace conventional materials derived from oil and animal products and make everyday products more environmentally friendly.

DiaMonTech AG

The Berlin-based company DiaMonTech has developed a device that measures blood glucose levels non-invasively. Their product D-Pocket uses mid-infrared laser technology to stimulate glucose molecules in the skin. The thermal energy generated by the excitation of the molecules can be measured and the blood glucose level can be determined quickly and reliably.

Winners 2023

Bearcover GmbH

The Berlin-based medical technology start-up Bearcover was founded in 2020 by Daniel Flynn, Ben Duffy, Fernando Germán and Torales Chorne. Together, they developed a solution to relieve nursing staff in retirement homes and clinics during the night shift. With their robot “Oscar”, the Bearcover company developed a tool to make work easier for nursing staff in care homes and clinics. Using state-of-the-art computer technology and UWB radar sensors, the robot detects movements and breathing through closed doors. Oscar provides reliable data through control runs in order to detect accidents or falls (emergencies) at an early stage.

Yonicore by CoreCreation UG

Yonicore is the central product of Core Creation UG, founded in 2022. With a team size of 3 people, the company is developing the first customizable medical device for the treatment of female urinary incontinence and genital prolapse. Their inflatable biocompatible device (a so-called pessary), YoniCore, adapts individually to each pelvic floor to provide immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation for pelvic floor dysfunction – such as prolapse (protrusion of an internal organ) and incontinence. The solution consists of an individually inflatable silicone mold (pessary), a rehabilitation app and a user-centric, privacy-friendly cloud environment.

LI.FI Service GmbH

LI.FI Service GmbH is based in Berlin and currently employs 38 people. Within 18 months of its foundation, they have already succeeded in integrating their blockchain bridge system into one of the largest wallets in the blockchain sector, MetaMask. Li.Fi is developing a software product that compiles the most important bridge systems between different blockchains and connects them with each other. This creates compatibility between different blockchain systems and makes decentralized blockchain systems more accessible, which in turn makes it easier for new companies to enter the market.

AssistMe GmbH

Founded in 2017, AssitMe aims to offer staff in care homes important support in their day-to-day work and improve the quality of care with a solution consisting of “networked” incontinence pants and an app.
A “clip” on incontinence pants can be used to measure the moisture and condition of the incontinence pants. The clip transmits the data to the associated care app, which processes the information for the carers so that they know immediately what steps they can take. Residents in care homes can thus be cared for promptly and the quality of care improved.

Neofonie GmbH

The digital agency Neofonie was founded back in 1998. The entire Neofonie GmbH now has 180 employees and its goal is to create customized and user-oriented solutions for web, mobile and general IT applications. With “TXTWerk”, users are provided with a tool that enables them to gain a better overview of IT risks. TXTWerk is an automatic text analysis tool that works its way through the multitude of reports on hacker attacks, malware and security vulnerabilities and creates reports from the findings. This tool can be used to identify important developments in the field of IT security and thus warn companies and authorities of new threats. The tool was developed in cooperation with the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).

micropsi industries GmbH

Micropsi industries develops software for industrial robots. With the product “MIRAI”, robot arms can react in real time to variances in the manufacturing industry. This is made possible by cameras and artificial intelligence – enabling industrial robots to learn from humans through demonstration and later derive their own movements.

Verimi GmbH

Verimi offers comprehensive, user-centric and secure workflow components for the digitalization of private business processes and public specialist procedures. Citizens can store their personal identity data in the Verimi ID wallet and then reuse it in cross-industry use cases.

NIA HEALTH GmbH

The Nia Health platform is a fully-fledged clinical diagnosis and therapy system using machine vision technology in the field of dermatology. The platform is fully integrated into existing processes and systems of leading clinics and practicing physicians.

$STYLE.Protocol (styleXchange UG)

$STYLE.Protocol is a token ecosystem that allows any NFT to be automatically integrated into any metaverse of the owner’s choice. The NFT can be used in 3D in any metaverse and additionally sublet to any other user so that the owner or creator can generate revenue.

macht.sprache. (Gasser and von Rath GbR)

macht.sprache. checks user texts for potentially sensitive terms and provides information for the translation.Terms are identified from the growing database.
Natural language processing (machine learning) is also used The web app promotes politically sensitive translation and can be used as a browser extension for Google Translate.

Skytale is building a “chain-agnostic”, enterprise-grade crypto asset tracker for crypto-friendly SMEs that simplifies business operations.

Visseiro

The technology developed by Visseiro enables contactless collection of vital data. The technology is used in the form of an ergonomic seat cushion for long-term health monitoring of senior citizens.

brighter AI

brighter AI develops solutions for anonymizing images and videos. It complies with data protection regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, APPI and CSL while ensuring high data quality based on artificial intelligence.

Augmented robotics

Augmented Robotics uses augmented reality to connect analog and digital games. Augmented Robotics offers an intelligent augmented reality module – RoboHeart – that can be mounted on existing radio-controlled devices.

Advosense

Advosense has developed a solution that monitors patients with incontinence and enables clinics to know when, where and how to best meet the needs of their patients.

The Berlin-based company mediaire GmbH is developing an AI-based diagnostic report system for neurodegenerative diseases that will enable radiologists to process all relevant image information immediately and clearly, including a diagnostic report.

SmartCloudFarming

Smart Cloud Farming is developing its cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) – SoilEye – to generate 3D soil maps for arable soil characterization.

Visualix

The Visualix end-to-end AR platform enables companies to create applications for reliable and robust AR at industrial scale and under industrial conditions.

GEFERTEC GmbH

Founded in 2015, GEFERTEC GmbH develops new processes for the production of metal components using 3D printers. The 3DMP® technology combines the arc welding process with the CAD data of the metal part to be produced. The target group for this are manufacturing companies in the aerospace, shipbuilding, automotive, mechanical engineering and toolmaking industries.

Greta & Starks Apps UG

Greta & Starks Apps UG is a social enterprise with the aim of using smart technology not only to make inclusion affordable, but to make it possible in the first place. Blind and deaf movie fans can easily enjoy movies with audio description and extended subtitles via an app. With the Starks AR headset, it will soon be possible to put the smart device aside and read the subtitles comfortably with augmented reality in the movie image.

InSystems Automation GmbH

InSystems Automation GmbH creates innovative automation solutions for material flow, assembly and quality assurance. The customized machines and systems are designed, built, programmed and implemented in the customer’s production control system by InSystems. InSystems supplies material flow solutions with transport robots from a single source.

MatchX GmbH

MatchX GmbH is an end2end LPWAN solution provider. The company offers hardware, software and cloud services. Headquartered in Berlin, MatchX offers end-to-end LPWAN (Low-Power-Wide-Area-Network) solutions from design to manufacturing and delivers high-quality products that track, collect and monitor device data.

Sensorberg GmbH

Sensorberg is a young Berlin-based high-tech company with an IoT portfolio for the digitalization of complex building types. Under the motto “merging the physical with the digital world”, the IoT start-up digitizes complex buildings and physical processes in offices and coworking spaces, hospitals and hotels. To this end, hardware and software components developed by Sensorberg are installed that are also compatible with existing systems.

VIRTENIO GmbH

VIRTENIO offers innovative complete solutions for the digitalization of the supply chain and for applications in the “Industry 4.0” environment. Sensor data is transferred wirelessly and securely to the cloud from anywhere in the world and relevant information is made available 24/7 worldwide. In the areas of production, logistics and building technology, the products can be used to quickly and easily detect and reduce damage, document and improve quality and optimize processes and procedures.

Cassantec GmbH

Cassantec has developed a prognostic solution that answers the “when” questions by forecasting disruptions. The SaaS product “Cassantec Prognostics” calculates the probability of future events and provides insights into the current and future state of assets with an explicit time horizon of typically weeks or months, in certain cases even years.

Factor-E Analytics GmbH

Factor-E Analytics GmbH is an IT company from Berlin that uses its cloud solution FactorE.OS to analyze the power consumption of production facilities in order to extract machine and operating data. FactorE.OS thus achieves intelligent digitalization, monitoring and networking of production facilities. Regardless of the type of device, age and interfaces of the machinery, the software platform provides a quick entry into Industry 4.0. What began as a research project at TU Berlin has grown into a company that has won the Deep Tech Award.

MCS DataLabs GmbH

MCS Data Labs GmbH develops leading hardware and software applications for IoT, emergency communication, remote internet and eHealth. The company was honored with the Deep Tech Award 2016 for its SmarKo Health®, a sensor and application-based technology that addresses the needs of patients and medical experts in the field of remote diagnosis and treatment.

PTX tech GmbH

PTX tech GmbH develops a combination of early warning and assistance systems for machines and vehicles. In 2016, the company won an award for the development of 4D MMS, an optical sensor for 3D detection of the environment and objects. This “non-contact protective device” is used to increase the efficiency of machines that no longer need to be enclosed and to prevent collisions during human-machine interaction. The application focus is on industrial automation and logistics. In short: machines, vehicles and robots are enabled to “see and recognize”.

Winners 2015

pikkerton GmbH

pikkerton has been involved in the development and production of sensors for over 13 years, including for the AAL market. The company won the Deep Tech Award 2015 with its innovative fall detection system “Grannyguard”, which has now successfully completed the VDE approval process and is in the field test phase. Grannyguard can detect a fall or a critical situation itself, trigger an alarm independently and thus inform relatives or carers immediately.

R3 – Reliable Realtime Radio Communications GmbH

R3-Communications has developed EchoRingTM, a high-performance radio solution for industrial real-time applications. The software solution makes it possible to replace Ethernet cables in industrial applications with a radio technology that guarantees both the efficient operation of machines and the safety of the people operating them.

Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity

The IT security company Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity protects companies and public institutions worldwide from cyber attacks. With high-security encryption solutions, next-generation firewalls and firewalls for business-critical web applications, innovative approaches for secure working in the cloud as well as desktop and mobile security, the company develops and produces technically leading solutions for information and network security.

Senic GmbH

Senic is developing the next evolution of user interfaces for a smart home. A team of now over 20 people is working at the intersection of design and technology to create the perfect atmosphere in a home that promotes human well-being. The Nuimo Control software, which won the Deep Tech Award, is a universal control system for all smart devices.

Sicoya GmbH

Sicoya was spun out of TU Berlin in January 2015 and is based on many years of development in silicon photonics since 2007. The company’s disruptive innovations in silicon photonics enable cost-effective and energy-efficient data transmission in large quantities. In 2017, the company entered the data center market with a fully integrated 100 Gb/s transceiver chip – electronics and optics on one chip. Sicoya was able to acquire several third-party research funds and was awarded various start-up prizes – including the Deep Tech Award.
