EU-Projekt Empowering Migrant Voices for Local Integration and Inclusion

The EU project “Empowering Migrant Voices for Local Integration and Inclusion” (EMV-LII) promotes the political participation of people with a migration history, particularly in the development of local integration strategies. New approaches for greater participation are being tested in seven EU countries.

Objectives and measures of the project

The aim of the project is to strengthen the participation of people with a migration history at municipal level. The focus is particularly on women, young people and people seeking protection, who receive targeted support through further education and training on political participation and legal issues. Training courses and anti-discrimination workshops are offered for administrative staff and politicians.

The political participation of people with a migration history is further strengthened through the development of an e-participation tool and the promotion of advisory boards, networks and initiatives.

Activity of the Integration and Migration Department

The aim of the Berlin Participation Act (PartMigG) is to promote the equal participation of people with a history of migration in all areas of Berlin society – this is also promoted through participation in the EU project EMV-LII. The focus is on strengthening participation as a task for society as a whole in the migration society.

Participating cities and other stakeholders

The project involves 19 partners from seven countries – Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Greece. This international partnership enables the exchange of successful examples and ensures that the concepts developed in the project can also be applied in other EU countries.

The partners include local and regional administrations and civil society organizations. The main applicant is Südwind e.V. from Vienna, while the Move Global e.V. association in Berlin is a project partner.

Duration and funding

The EMV-LII project runs from March 2024 to February 2027 and is co-financed with around 1.6 million euros from the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
