Marzahn-Hellersdorf in the 20th century: In Kaulsdorf, a company bleaches imported ivory from 1910. Various general stores offer "colonial goods" such as coffee, cocoa and spices. And from 1933, the Reichskolonialbund organized events to reclaim the German colonies that had been revoked after the First World War.
When the German Reich exploited various territories as colonies, the then rural Marzahn-Hellersdorf was not left unscathed. While the political center of the colonial power was located in the metropolis of Berlin, economic, social and personal traces of German colonial history can also be found here.
