Deniz Utlu: Father's Sea
Reading
Deniz Utlu's novel Father's Sea tells of a stroke of fate that affects an entire family, of a father-son relationship that ends abruptly, of migration and belonging. Deniz Utlu traces the unexpected paths of life and memory. His novel is a testament to the power of storytelling - which is most evident when language is the last thing that remains. On May 28, he will read from his book at the Berlin Wall Memorial and talk about it with the audience.
The reading at the Berlin Wall Memorial will take place as part of the workshop "Cultures in Motion: Migration, Refuge and Exile" (May 27-29, 2024), which is organized by the Center for German and European Studies (CGES) based at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and sponsored by the DAAD. The research network conducts research on narratives, gaze regimes and cultural productions in the context of migration societies.
With the support of the University of Wisconsin - Madison Sol Z. & Gisela Imm Blooomenkranz Fund and the DAAD-sponsored Center for German and European Studies (CGES) at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
