Homeless people can now safely store their valuables in free lockers on Kreuzberg's Hafenplatz.
"We hope that this will help to make life a little easier for those affected who already have a very difficult life without their own home," said Thomas Mertens from Home & Care Nothilfe GmbH, who opened the lockers on Monday together with the deputy district mayor of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Oliver Nöll. The lockers should help to protect personal belongings from loss and theft, said Nöll.
A total of 22 lockers of different sizes are available - some small ones for ID documents, others the size of a shoebox or a small suitcase. It is the second such facility in Berlin, the first being located on Finsterwalder Straße in Reinickendorf.
