As a rule, your nationality is crucial for where your file is processed. But nationality does not matter for certain concerns, e.g. for:
  • people in an ongoing asylum procedure (Aufenthaltsgestattung) or with an obligation to leave the country (units A 2, A 3 and A 4)
  • EU Blue Card, residence permits for skilled workers holding a university degree, students, scientists, and family members of holders of one of these residence titles (units B 1, B 2, B 3 and B 4),
  • residence permits for skilled workers with vocational training, for education and training or for qualification measures, ICT cards, and family members of holders of one of these residence titles (unit B 6)
  • extension of Schengen visas (unit B 5)
