Decentralized technologies as new basic digital infrastructure
The capital region has established itself as a vibrant development hub for distributed ledger technologies (DLT) and blockchain infrastructures. Berlin-based research institutions, companies, and startups are working together on open protocols, decentralized identities, secure data rooms, and scalable network architectures. In addition, there are pilot projects in administration, energy, mobility, finance, and culture that demonstrate how DLT can be used in real-world contexts. Berlin offers an international ecosystem that combines technological expertise, regulatory proximity, and a strong community.
Interoperability, trust, and efficient processes
A current development focus is the interoperability of systems: that is, the ability to connect different networks and protocols with each other. This creates systems in which digital identities, authorizations, or values can be used securely and automatically across different platforms. At the same time, the immutability of data opens up new possibilities for auditability, compliance, and securing digital supply chains. Smart contracts automate complex processes, reduce transaction costs, and create reliable framework conditions for organizations that need to cooperate even without existing mutual trust.
Practical applications instead of technology as an end in itself
The Deep Tech Award is not relevant for technological experiments, but rather for concrete use cases with social and economic benefits. These include, for example, forgery-proof certificates in the fields of education and health, transparent energy and mobility chains, new opportunities for citizen participation, automated finance and insurance processes, and digital ownership models for data, rights, and resources. The key factor is that these solutions address real problems and enable new forms of collaboration.
Award for solutions with future potential
The Deep Tech Award is therefore intended to honor projects that sustainably strengthen security, transparency, and digital autonomy through decentralized technologies. The award recognizes not only technical innovations, but also applications that are scalable, connectable, and socially relevant, thus laying the foundation for new economic, social, or digital models.
