Bärenhitze | Berlin Heat Protection

Climate change, along with associated extreme weather events and high temperatures in summer, is regularly present in our daily lives. Therefore, in summer of 2023 the Lageso launched a heat protection campaign.
The goal is to inform citizens about continuously rising temperatures in summer and the occurrence of heatwaves. Furthermore, it aims to raise awareness about heat-related issues and how to handle the heat.

Heat tips

  • Three heat tips for nutrition: 1. Eat light food: Fruits and vegetables are easy to digest and contain a lot of water. 2. Drink enough: Water and unsweetened drinks. Icecold drinks put a strain on your circulation. 3. Avoid alcoholic beverages: Alcohol dehydrates the body.

  • Three heat tipps for cooling. 1. Cool your body: Cold compresses on the neck or forearms help. 2. Keep cool indoors: Set up a fan or use a hand fan. 3. Keep the heat outside: Air when it is cooler outside. Darken the windows during the day.

  • Three heat tips for prudence. 1. Avoid the hottest periods: Reschedule acitvities to cooler mornings or later evenings. 2. Protect your body with: Light and airy clothing, a sun hat, sunglasses and sun screen. 3. Heat protection is a commnity matter: Protect those around you and do not hesitate to help yourself.

  • Three heat tips for health. 1. Store medications correctly: Many medications lose their effectiveness in hot weather. 2. Call the medical on-call service 116 117: In case of dizziness, nausea or exhaustion. 3. Call 112: In case of unconsciousness, vomiting, body temperature higher than 39 degress celsius or confusion.
