To date, Korn have released fourteen albums, sold over 40 million records worldwide and won the Grammy Award after eight Grammy nominations in the categories "Best Short Form Video" (2001) and "Best Metal Performance" (2003). Several sold-out world tours, headline slots at the world's biggest festivals and a steadily growing fan scene have cemented Korn's position. While the band's logo has become an iconic identifier for their fans, they are also celebrated in pop culture: The Comedy Central series South Park dedicated an entire episode to the band, while they play themselves in a cameo appearance in the series Monk. Even 30 years after their formation, Korn are still primarily known for their unique style, which bursts with energy live and thrills the crowds.
Founded in 1993 in Bakersfield California, the band debuted with the 1994 album "Korn", which quickly caused a stir with its raw sound and razor-sharp lyrics. In 1996, "Life Is Peachy" was released and Korn entered the international charts for the first time. The album opener "Twist" is a prime example of Jonathan Davies' vocal experiments and the band's sometimes crazy musical approach. At number 1 on the Billboard 200, "Follow The Leader" (1998) and "Issues" (1999) finally represent the band's international breakthrough, which also reached number 1 in the German album charts for the first time in 2002 with "Untouchables".
In 2003, the band released their next album, "Take A Look In The Mirror", before releasing their "Greatest Hits Vol. I" album in 2004 and becoming part of the legendary MTV Unplugged series in 2006. A year earlier, the band began experimenting with industrial sounds on "See You On The Other Side" (2005), which can still be found on "Untitled", released in 2007. With drummer Ray Luzier replacing founding member David Silveria, the band's music became even more rhythmically complex. The biggest musical upheaval, however, can be found on "The Path Of Totality", released in 2011, which was partly created with Skrillex and mixes dubstep elements with the nu metal sound of Korn. Founding member Brian "Head" Welch has been part of the band again since 2013 and was involved again on "The Paradigm Shift" (2013) and "The Serenity Of Suffering" (2016). One thing that Korn have never lost over the years is their courage to present themselves without pretense and to incorporate new influences into their music. Like "The Nothing" (2019), the current album "Requiem" (2022) features a sound that is complemented by modern core elements but still bears the band's unmistakable fingerprint.
Songs like "Blind", "Freak On A Leash", "Falling Away From Me" and "Right Now" have become an integral part of any rock & metal playlist. Korn will be in Germany for two concerts in August 2024 and will be joined by Spiritbox, a band whose modern metalcore sound is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after metal acts of the moment.
