Family Open-Air for the 75th anniversary of the end of the Airlift

On 12 May, the participating museums, the Allied Museum, the Military History Museum Berlin-Gatow Airfield and the Berlin-Karlshorst Museum, in cooperation with the Tempelhof Project, invite you to the programme "75 Years of the Airlift - the Family Open Air".

12 May 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Berlin Airlift. As every year, the city's political representatives will celebrate the non-public ceremony at the Airlift Memorial on Platz der Luftbrücke with national and international guests and honour the achievements of those involved. The official tributes will conclude this year with the ceremonial unveiling of the memorial plaque for "Operation Little Vittles" by the Governing Mayor Kai Wegner and the Managing Director of Tempelhof Projekt GmbH Fabian Schmitz-Grethlein.

In the afternoon, the courtyard of honour in front of the entrance to the former central airport will belong to all Berliners, neighbours and guests. On the open space in front of the main entrance to the airport building, a supporting programme on the Airlift with guided tours, lectures, music and gastronomy will ensure a varied afternoon at THF.

From 2 pm, the participating museums, the Allied Museum, the Military History Museum Berlin-Gatow Airfield and the Berlin-Karlshorst Museum, in cooperation with the Tempelhof Project, invite you to the "75 Years of the Airlift - the Family Open Air" programme. The various activities are free of charge and offer both children and adults a colourful programme on the subject of the Airlift. A hands-on programme invites the youngest to make parachutes, while the "Check-In" visitor centre hosts discussions with US veterans, a book presentation and an information event on the special exhibition "Blocked Victors - Divided Berlin". The exhibition, which has now been at THF for almost a year, will close its doors after this finissage. On Sunday, all guests will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition once again. Guided tours will be offered every hour on the hour from 3 pm. The free tickets for the various formats are subject to registration due to the limited number of tickets available. A highlight for the whole family is certainly the theatre Anu with its performance "When chocolate fell from the sky".

The Airlift Afternoon beginns at 2pm and ends at 6 pm.
