Waste of Berlin: Treasures from Berlin's rivers

Until 22 April, the interactive art exhibition "Waste of Berlin: Treasures from Berlin's rivers" is showing found objects from Berlin's waters in the BSR's NochMall.

Waste of Berlin" offers exactly what the title promises, but in a completely different way than expected: interactive, colourful, creative, diverse, amusing and sometimes shocking - just like Berlin itself - with art objects made from rubbish.

  • What did we fish out of Berlin's waters during our CleanUps in summer and autumn 2023?
  • What is behind these curious finds and perennial favourites?
  • What are the dimensions of the plastic crisis?
  • How big is the daily plastic production measured in Berlin TV towers, the unit of measurement used in the exhibition?
With "Waste of Berlin", we create a link to our own lives and behaviour and show that the plastic crisis is a problem that affects us all and starts right on our doorstep. We are sensitising people to the fact that we must not accept this. At the same time, it becomes clear that it is above all a structural problem that goes beyond individual behaviour: we need a fundamental change in the way we deal with plastics - a plastic revolution. We therefore invite all visitors to share their own ideas so that they can take action themselves. We are addressing Berlin's urban population with the omnipresent topics of plastic pollution, climate crisis, waste separation and avoidance, circular economy and sustainability. The exhibition is intended to be a meeting place where we can learn and exchange ideas together.
