The Berlin health administration expects that the vaccine of the American manufacturer Novavax will be offered in the German capital from next week.
"Currently, Nuvaxovid is planned to be offered in the vaccination drive-thru in Lichtenberg and the vaccination center in Tegel. Vaccine doses will also be provided to Berlin hospitals," a spokesman told the German Press Agency (dpa) on Monday (Feb. 21, 2022). Berlin expects to receive about 63,000 doses of the vaccine Nuvaxovid.
The vaccine is inteded to be offered primarily to nursing staff and medical personnel. According to the spokesman, the vaccination rate in Berlin's care facilities is very high, at around 90 percent. The planned vaccination offer in Lichtenberg and Tegel should therefore be able to meet the demand.
According to the health ministers of the German federal states, Nuvaxovid is to be offered prioritarily to previously unvaccinated employees in the affected facilities. Vaccination will be compulsory for employees in nursing facilities and clinics from mid-March. As soon as the exact delivery date for the state of Berlin is known, the corresponding appointment calendars will be activated. According to the Standing Committee on Vaccination, Nuvaxovid has not yet been approved for booster vaccinations, but can be used for this purpose in certain cases.
