According to the developer, the environmental education center in Britzer Garten that was destroyed by fire will be rebuilt in its original form.

According to Grün Berlin GmbH, construction work on the new building is expected to begin in the first half of 2027. The project is estimated to cost approximately 2.4 million euros. The architects who designed the original building and the outdoor facilities have been rehired for this project.

Expected completion in 2028

The environmental education center is expected to be completed in 2028. The new building will feature several improvements. For example, the mechanical ventilation system will be replaced with a natural ventilation system, and a photovoltaic system will be added. Sun-control glazing and glare protection will also be installed to shield against summer heat. Accessibility will also be improved.

Center popular with families and children

On the night of October 23–24, 2024, the approximately 400-square-meter environmental education center operated by the Freilandlabor Britz association in the Britzer Garten was destroyed by fire. The public prosecutor’s office assumed it was a case of arson, according to reports in early 2025. It had opened in 2017. Between 3,400 and 5,500 children visited it annually. Educational activities are currently taking place in the Karl-Foerster Pavilion, which was previously used as a café.
