BVG marks emergency call boxes with bright colors

The BVG aims to make its emergency call boxes more visible by using eye-catching markings.

Pink, yellow, blue and red: The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) want to use these eye-catching colors to make its emergency and information call boxes more visible and thereby improve safety in subway stations.

According to the BVG, the markings have been tested since Tuesday (July 21, 2026) at the Alexanderplatz, Kurfürstenstraße and Britz-Süd subway stations as part of a pilot project called "Pink*Zone." The Walther-Schreiber-Platz and Osloer Straße stations are scheduled to follow the next day. 

Passengers can rate markings

Different colors were chosen for each station. Passengers can use a QR code to provide feedback on the markings. If the markings are well-received, emergency call boxes at other stations should also be designated as Pink*Zones. According to the BVG, there are 570 call boxes scattered throughout the capital, mainly at subway stations. Anyone who feels uncomfortable or needs help can reach the BVG security control center directly at any time by pressing the emergency button on the call boxes.

Number of crimes in BVG vehicles and stations on the decline

According to the BVG, criminal offenses on BVG vehicles and at BVG stations reached their lowest level in over ten years last year. The positive trend continued in the first half of 2026: Based on current figures, reported criminal offenses fell by about 16 percent compared to the same period last year, the BVG said. The BVG attributes this to its security strategy, which also includes the new pilot project.
