The police have made significantly increased security arrangements for parts of the centre of Berlin on Sunday.
With a so-called general order, extensive security measures and traffic closures were announced for the period from 5 am to 6 pm. "The areas around the government quarter in Mitte are particularly affected. It will also no longer be possible to travel on the Spree, including at the level of the Federal Chancellery," a police statement said on Friday. Residents of the two affected areas around the Chancellery and the Office of the Federal President should have an identity card with them for identification purposes.
According to the Berlin Traffic Information Centre (VIZ), road users should also expect considerable restrictions in Westend, Charlottenburg, Tiergarten and Mitte on Saturday between 9 am and 2 pm. The reason is the S 25 Berlin running event. The start and finish of the run is at the Olympic Stadium. The route closures will be gradually removed after the runners have passed through. The last participant is expected at the finish line at around 1:30 pm. Road users are advised to avoid the area as far as possible. Drivers can avoid the closed area via the A100 city motorway and the Tiergartentunnel.
