Education and Family Senator Katharina Wünsch wants to talk about the stress situation in Berlin's daycare centers for the first time at a round table on Friday. "It won't be a round table for wishful thinking", said the CDU politician in the Berlin House of Representatives.
"We want to talk about what causes stress and what measures can be taken to relieve it, always with the focus on the fact that they must also be feasible," said the Senator. "I have always said that, for me, everyone involved belongs at the same table."
The trade unions Verdi and GEW had called for negotiations on collective agreements to reduce the workload of employees in municipal daycare centers. "Of course, we invited the local authorities and the trade unions. But we also invited the independent providers, district representatives and representatives from the parent body," explained Günther-Wünsch. "I would like to emphasize that this round table is a prelude, that we do not expect to have solved all the problems on Friday, but that we will engage in a constructive and also critical exchange."
The aim of the first meeting was to take stock of the situation, but also to take on board the perspectives of the various stakeholders: "How do district authorities actually see possible measures, how do parents perceive the situation?" said the senator. "Then we will find out in further meetings what is possible in the current situation." Günther-Wünsch dampened expectations for the start of the talks: "We won't be able to say for sure tomorrow whether there will be any relief, but we will have to talk about measures to ease the situation."
