In 1836, the left-wing extremist and author Georg Büchner writes the novella Lenz based on a true story experienced by the writer of the same name suffering from mental illness. The POV is pre-revolutionary and psychic, and the text ends unfinished with a sedated and silenced protagonist, guarded by the guardians of the public order. These latter have shot a man to death, who was in an acute mental crisis – in June 2023 in the city of Ingolstadt. It was the fourth incident of this kind in 2023.

At the Videothek of the Volksbühne, 200 years of systemic violence against mentally ill persons come up against a bunch of delicate hools in the arid woods of Brandenburg. Poor images from a body camera meet fine-grained police bullets – turning on one single woman: Anna K. Seidel.
