Felted and knitted: How wool is turned into beautiful things

Open workshop for families at the Schafwiese

Schafe im Schlossgarten Charlottenburg

Schafe im Schlossgarten Charlottenburg

In spring and summer, the meadows of Charlottenburg Palace Gardens are tended by a flock of sheep. Sheep don't just keep the grass nice and short. They also produce wool, which can be used to make beautiful and useful things.

What does wool feel like? What can we make from it? How is a thread made and what do we have to do to make an item of clothing from it? We felt, comb wool and spin threads with hand spindles. Spinning will be demonstrated on the spinning wheel every half hour. Anyone who wants to can try their hand at knitting. Those who simply want to paint the sheep and their meadow are also in the right place here.

The workshop takes place by the flock of sheep at the back of the castle garden and is open to all garden visitors. Information on the current location of the flock of sheep can be obtained from the castle ticket office on the day of the event.

We speak English and Russian, too. Please feel invited to join us.
Мы говорим также на английском и русском языках. Приглашаем всех желающих!
