GDR car racing in the fifties

Over seventy years ago, the DAMW racing collective, founded in Berlin-Johannisthal in 1951, began its triumphal march in the Formula II class and in sports car races. In the following year, the team was already almost unbeatable within the GDR and also competitive internationally. From 1955, the racing department, now based in Eisenach at EMW, had the fastest 1.5-liter racing sports cars in Europe - only Porsche was a serious rival. Hendrik Medrow has thoroughly documented this history in his book "Von Blendern, Siegern, Sechszylindern - Das staatliche Rennkollektiv der DDR 1951-1957". On the basis of his rich photographic material, he will present this successful period of German racing for the GDR and then take questions from the audience.
