A double feature event will showcase the short film "CLOWN*ESSES" by Jana Rothe, followed by the live performance of "THE REQUIEM OF SOPHIE WITHMAN" by Clémence Caillouel. "CLOWN*ESSES" is a short film exploring the lives of feminist clowns. Featuring Gözde Atalay, the director of "The Requiem of Sophie Withman," among other female and non-binary clowns, it provides insight into the artistic process of this dark comedy performance.
„CLOWN*ESSES“ shows the lives of contemporary feminist clowns who turn the world upside down beyond learned structures. The clown*esses Gözde and Lokke emancipate themselves from patriarchal structures and representations in search of their very own homeland. Between the stage and everyday life, they find their constant in transformation and enter into a dialogue with themselves and the world. An underestimated theatrical art becomes a niche of feminism. A documentary between reality and magic. (documentary, 22‘)
„THE REQUIEM OF SOPHIE WITHMAN“ is a dark comedy performance mixing contemporary clown and theater. It's a burlesque comedy, non-verbal and participative.
The proposal of the show is to laugh about the schemes of the great myths of love.
Sophie Withman loves fame, romance and stories that end tragically. Reality is deceiving, so she wrote her very own tragedy, and night after night, she brings it to life on stage. You may think you are in for a jazz concert, but a raging melodrama is what it is. Consider yourself warned: it will end in a bloodbath!
