The Coronavirus incidence in Berlin has risen above the 1,000 mark for the first time.
According to the Senate's situation report, the incidence value on Wednesday (Jan. 19, 2022) was at 1,055.1, up from 962.8 the previous day. The sharp increase could be due to late reports of Coronavirus cases: In recent days, the district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf was unable to transmit data due to technical problems. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the nationwide incidence on Wednesday was 575.7. Berlin still has the second highest incidence in Germany after Bremen.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday, 10,732 new infections were reported. The total number of all confirmed infections since the beginning of the pandemic thus rose to 415,415. The hospitalization rate on Wednesday was 12.6, compared to 13.1 the previous day. The figure indicates how many people per 100,000 Berliners were hospitalized due to Coronavirus within seven days.
