According to data provided by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Friday morning (Jan. 07, 2022), 5961 new infections were reported within one day. 511.5 people per 100,000 inhabitants were thus infected with the Coronavirus within seven days. This so-called seven-day incidence has thus once again increased sharply. Three additional deaths associated with Covid-19 were also reported.

On Thursday, the seven-day incidence had still been at 416.9. Values had still been below 300 after the Christmas holidays. The RKI had pointed out that this could have been due to a lower testing and reporting activity over the holidays, with the available data thus offering "only an incomplete picture of the epidemiological situation."
