High risk of forest fires: smoking and barbecue banned in forests

Waldbrandgefahr

Due to the ongoing drought, there is a significant risk of forest fires in Berlin.

The Senate Department for the Environment urged people to strictly observe the ban on smoking and barbecuing in and near forests. "Dry leaves, needles and branches and twigs catch fire easily." According to the statement, those who violate the smoking and fire ban face fines of at least 100 euros and up to 50,000 euros.

Weather forecast: No precipitation announced

As a result of the persistent drought, the forest floor is very easily ignitable. Even a cigarette butt thrown out of a car or hot exhaust parts can be dangerous and start fires. Weather forecasts suggested a further increase in the danger, it added. No precipitation was announced for the coming weeks.
