Starting February 14, parents can enroll their children in high schools in Berlin.
A school of choice must be specified for the transition of future seventh-graders to integrated secondary schools (Integrierte Sekundarschulen), grammar schools (Gymnasium) and community schools (Gemeinschaftsschulen), the Senate Department for Education announced on Thursday.
The specification of second and third wishes is optional. The registration period runs until February 22. When registering, parents must submit the registration form and their child's developmental prognosis. Berlin's Senator for Education, Astrid-Sabine Busse (SPD), said that there are "suitable secondary schools with different profiles and offers" for every type of learner.
The notices of admission or non-admission are to be sent out by June 14. Parents of children who do not get a place at one of the schools of their choice will be offered an alternative, the Senate administration said. Registration for secondary schools from grade five is already underway.
