New Year's Eve riots: Police set up tip-off portal

Silvester in Berlin

The Berlin police hope that an anonymous tip-off portal will provide further information about the riots on New Year's Eve. They asked witnesses who took photos or videos to upload them to the portal.

In particular, recordings of attacks on emergency and rescue forces are of interest in order to solve the crimes, the police said Wednesday. It asked for information on the place and time of recording. On the night of New Year's Day, police officers and firefighters had been attacked on duty in several German cities, including with firecrackers and rockets. The attacks were particularly fierce in some neighborhoods of Berlin. According to Berlin police, 355 criminal and administrative offenses were initiated. 145 people were temporarily arrested.
