Due to many cases of illness among train drivers, the S-Bahn in Berlin is reducing its services.
From Monday until Wednesday, December 21, passengers on the S1, S3 and S5 lines will have to prepare for fewer S-Bahn trains. There, the additional reinforcement rides, which otherwise increase the capacities from Monday to Friday during the rush hours, will be cancelled, as the S-Bahn Berlin announced on Twitter on Saturday. The trains affected are the S1 between Zehlendorf and Potsdamer Platz, the S3 Express between Friedrichshagen and Ostbahnhof and the S5 between Mahlsdorf and Ostbahnhof.
Already for Sunday, all trips of the lines S26 and S85 have been cancelled. S-Bahn passengers should instead use the S25 for line 26 between Teltow Stadt and Potsdamer Platz. For the S85, the S-Bahn recommended switching to the S8 trains between Grünau and Ostkreuz. There are also problems with increased sick leave at the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe. BVG already announced at the end of August that they would be using fewer vehicles on numerous bus lines due to staff shortages.
