Cheese Berlin took place for the first time in November 2012 and was an immediate success with around 7,000 visitors. Under the motto "Everything you can make from milk," more than 30 selected producers, affineurs and traders from the Belrin region and all over Germany offer high-quality cheeses to taste and purchase.
Specialty Cheeses, Shepherds and Traditions
The food festival showcases cheesemongers from Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands and the British Isles. They present specialties such as Ahrntaler Graukäse, Chällerhocker, Remeker or Stichelton. The organizers of Cheese Berlin also want to draw their visitors' attention to the fact that many types of cheese and the knowledge about their production are endangered. The loss of cultural and culinary traditions also means a loss of biodiversity - when old livestock breeds are lost, pastoral landscapes with their specific biodiversity are also destroyed. Cheese Berlin thus wants to keep old cheesemaking traditions alive and present them to the public.
