The central exhibition «Chaos & Renewal: Berlin 1920 - 2020» at the Märkisches Museum commemorates the creation of Greater Berlin 100 years ago.
100 years ago Berlin became a metropolis virtually overnight. The reason for this was the Greater Berlin Act, which raised the number of inhabitants to around 3.8 million and was passed on 27 April 1920. The capital is celebrating this, among other things, with the exhibition «Chaos & Renewal: Berlin 1920 - 2020». With a view to the past and present, it explores the question of how a constructive departure can be created from a chaotic upheaval: How can big cities succeed?
